Moll, you did fantastically! Well done! Everything you bought sounds great! There were no boots round here this weekend(they seem to be dwindling these last few years - sob sob)There is one next week that we are selling at,so will have to restrain myself from spending any takings! We have done 1 already this year, making £120,so that was a good start. We are selling our junk this year! This is probably all the stuff hauled home from boot sales over the years!

It's taken a few weeks but I've finally managed to log on - the site kept refusing my password!
I have never done a bootsale but would like to have a go - anyone have any hints and tips for novice sellers?

Hints for novice bootsalers
Be organised. Use decent tables - try to enclose your car so people can't get at your boot when you are unloading - and don't be hesitant about telling them to get out of your boot!(this doesn't happen very often, but it can in some areas) Do not allow dealers/cheeky folk knock your prices down too much, however persistent they are,but do allow a bit - 10-20% Price everything but allow for haggling. Try to group like with like - kids toys together, kitchenware together etc Books are really difficult to sell, but go better if they are arranged nicely on a table - people don't like wading through lots of boxes on the floor. Generally your top limit for books is £1 (other than special stuff) Too many clothes are a non starter - a few are ok Put batteries in things that take them - you can always remove them after demonstrating the item works. Tiny cheap things can be sold in a bag (persil tab bags are good)at a bulk price Have a 10p/20p box low down at the front of the stall. Take wet covers - plastic tablecloths are great. Plenty of coffee/tea/snacks will be needed. Got there early - aim for 7 - 7.30 - you will be done by 1pm at the latest. Accept anything people offer you to sell - they feel better about not throwing it in the bin. Things people give us is always better than our own stuff! Get to know your sales, visit a few before you do your own, some are better than others. It will also help you to set your prices. Try to avoid spending your hard earned takings on stuff you don't really need just because it's cheap - but bargains are to be had (see Molls post) Watch the weather forecast! Do noy bother booking/paying in advance unless it is essential - the weather could turn and it's worth the £1 extra to avoid the risk Good luck - sorry this is a bit muddled - I wrote as the ideas came! I love Boot Sales too (selling as well as buying)! I had planned to do one with my DD last weekend but we couldn't as our car (Mondeo with HUGE boot space) was in the garage over the weekend and we only had a tiny Citroen Saxo courtesy car! Couldn't even fit the table in that, never mind anything to sell LOL!

There really aren't any decent boot sales near us Any that there are are run by traders and they all sell the same stuff - and most of that is overpriced junk and out of date foodstuffs! Love getting over to England for a decent days booting!
