;D
Just moved into our new house to find that every room needs decorating and some fairly major work done
Decided to cheer up my 9 yo son by doing his room first (he hated leaving his old one behind). Anyway he looked through the index book and chose a cabin bed with matching silver accessories. Next came the trip to B&Q where all paper he liked was £10 a roll
After a little research I found a really cheap wallpaper shop and managed to get the 4 rolls of paper we needed for £12 (it's not the same paper but the same style as the stuff he was picking) they threw in a huge box of paste free because I was so happy with my barain.
Then another trip to B&Q (they either think I'm a shop lifter or a store dectective by now) where we bought some timber, a sheet of mdf, sheet of chipboard, silver hammerite and some strong fixings - about £40 altogether. Hubby set to work on building the bed while I painted the woodwrk, radiator etc silver. We cut out a hole and put his old drawers behind it (painted silver) another carefully placed holes made a ladder which hinged to give him great storage space. The whole lot was painted silver. There was even enough mdf left over to make him a desk too.
The overall effect is very modern and funky - he says it makes him feel like a teenager! and of course I'm happy because it 'should' have cost about £250 and we did is for just over £50 ;D (although we did splash out and buy him a directors chair and desk lamp £15).
Now we just have to do the rest of it... any ideas or tips on frugal diy?
